The Rubicon

Kokopelli Lodge luxury bed and breakfast is located at beautiful Port Sorell on Tasmania's North West Coast. Port Sorell is part of the Rubicon which covers the townships of Port Sorell, Shearwater and Hawley Beach. Port Sorell
Port Sorell is the oldest settlement on the North-West Coast and was originally a fishing and sealing port named Burgess, after the chief police magistrate. In 1822 the name was officially changed to Port Sorell after Governor Sorell. During the 1840s it was the North Coast’s biggest town and had a population of 613 people, who were predominantly involved in the farming sector. Little evidence of Port Sorell’s history remains, after the town was destroyed by bushfire.

Shearwater
Shearwater was originally settled as part of the Port Sorell settlement while it's name comes from the bird commonly known as the mutton bird. Short-tailed shearwater birds are abundant in Tasmania and breed in great numbers each year.

Hawley Beach
Hawley Beach was named after Hawley House, which was built in the 1870s. Built by a retired Indian Army Officer, it is now registered with the National Trust.
